ups and downs in the field

HOLA!!!
Okay, so another week has gone by. I can`t believe it. Every week just
flies by now.

So we have an appointment to eat dinner every night with a family. Well, one
day we decided to teach them the sabbath day and word of wisdom
because they buy on sunday and also drink cold tea. We did it to help
them because their goal is to go to the temple to be sealed. They
thanked us and told us they were grateful for our help.

So we had a bad meeting with our convert k___. We got to her house
and her sister let us in...they were laughing a little too much and a
bit weird. We sat down with their friend and waited for them. They
were in the kitchen. My first thought was Oh no...they are drinking. I
was a bit worried. They came and sat down and then continued laughing.
They said some things in other languages that I didn`t understand. I
was almost at the point to just leave..but I asked k___ if she could
do the prayer. She laughed and laughed and after some time she finally
said it. We tried to teach a bit..but it was hard. When finally
someone knocked at the door. K___ left to see it who it was. It was
her guy friend. She comes back grabs her keys and waves goodbye. She
says she has to go. I ask if she can wait 5 minutes because we were
finishing up. She said no because it was something she had to do for
her dad a while ago but didnt do it...I asked her what was more
important. her boy friend or this...she said he wasn`t her boy friend, and then went to talk to him for a few minutes. Then she called her sister out...then
her sister came back and we decided to finish with a prayer. When we
were praying, k____ came in and then left with the guy...After the
lesson my companion told me what they said in the other language...and it
was not good. They were saying things about us.

So...the next day we visited k____ again. She apologized...and we
asked her if she was going to go sunday at church..she hasn`t been in
2 weeks and hasn`t gone to the activities either. She said
maybe...then she told us she wasn`t going to go to church anymore.
That she was going to study more...that she doesn`t feel comfortable
there. So my thought is she broke a commandment. My companion and I both
cried a bit. I just felt so helpless in this moment. She told us she
wouldnt tell us why...that she would keep it to herself...but maybe
one day she would tell us why. It is heartbreaking to see someone you
love fall away...and without knowing why or how you can help. We are
planning on going again to try to see if she did break a commandment.
she needs to understand that if she did she needs to repent, and go to
church.

so we taught erick about following the prophet. we showed the photos
from conference. He starts reading the names with the photos and
goes.. L tom perry...I have heard him speak...he is really good. they
all speak direct. what?! turns out they have the cable for this and he
has heard them speak!!! hhaha!!!

so we found a new joven (young adult) who has potential. Didnt want to accept
fecha yet  (baptismal date) because he admitted he smokes and drinks...we explained that the change won`t happen in one night. it will take time...but i can see him getting baptized in time.

so i have gained weight.  so for dinner i asked the family to give me
little. so they give me avena (a drink), with a tortilla, or papas....(potatoes)
haha.

At church...e___ and his family didn`t come...his wife was in the
hospital...so now they will have to wait until the next week to be
baptized. But we still have another joven  (young person) that should be baptized this week.. We had a less active at church with his son who has only been
once in my time here!!! also...stanley started his mission papers with
bishop and should be sending them in next month!!! i am so happy!!!
also visited our convert angel. I asked personal questions...and he
shared his testimony that he has read up to 2 nephi 2 and knows it is
true. It is really special to see people progressing. ;)

I love you all! I thank you for love and support. Please feed the
missionaries everytime they pass by your house. A cracker, a
drink...anything! They need it. And give them references. LOTS!

Transfers, but I'm staying (yeah)

Hola a Todos! (hello everyone)

Another week has flown by. Each week passes faster and faster. I don´t know how it is possible.

This week we taught E___ the word of wisdom...we gave him the pamphlet to read and as he was reading the list of things we shouldn´t use, he said...alcohol...nope I don´t drink. Coffee...I don´t like...tobacco...nope. etc...without us even asking he said he didn´t have a problem with any of these things. I was so happy. This guy really isn´t the same guy. His wife who got baptized said that saturday night he is always anxious and gets his clothes and shoes ready for church the next day. haha

So It was a members bday this week. We called him in the morning and sang happy birthday in english. He speaks english. We brought him a tiny slice of cake, with a book in english and a card. It was fun. haha

So changes....we didn´t have changes! wahoo!!! I am still in san marcos! We do have a new zone leader and a newbie. The zone leaders are in a trio. So....the new zone leader is from el salvador and has like 18 months. The other is elder hinojosa from california...first week here. yikes. haha.

Oh dad and mom...got the package with the bracelet and necklace...thank you!!! I apologize to those who have written me letters lately...I have been a bit lazy to write people. but I appreciate every letter I get.

So Friday we had divisions with the hermana leaders. I was with my old companion HERMANA SANTOS!!! I was so happy! She was my favorite companion. And we only had 1 change together. So after our district meeting I went with hermana eusebio to get our clean clothes. I asked if we could pass by a less active joven....even though we had him planned at 2pm. We went and he immediately started to cry. He said he didn´t want to be there, he didn´t want to eat, he didn´t want to keep going...that he is having problems in his family...etc. We offered a prayer, we read some scriptures and then I asked if he had ever gotten a blessing before and I asked if he wanted one. We called the elders and then we came back to give him a blessing. Poor guy. He is the only member in his family. He was dealt in some bad things which is why he went inactive for a time. Now he is going to church. When we left his house my companion goes...how did you know? How do you do it? God knew that we needed to go there in that moment... I told her I didn´t know. That I just thought it would be easier for our schedule to pass by at the moment...but I guess that is how the spirit works sometimes right?

So Hermana Santos and I visited our investigator in Los campos. She asks m__ and s__...which one of you are going to baptize him? I didn´t even think of that...that would be awesome if S___ could baptize his friend...to get a taste of what it is like in the mission.

We got M___ to open up a bit more with hermana santos. She says she
doesn´t think she can change. She wants to, but doesn´t think she can.

So Hermana santos helped me make a list of things to do with my companion. Things I need to do better. My comp has to contact 10 people each day, has to plan every other day, and has to start teaching every other lesson. She told me if she doesnt contact those 10...I cannot. That we will finish with 10 less. That if she doesnt´ start a lesson, tell the investigator that we have to go. So far she has been good. When we planned it took forever because I was waiting for her to start...but she will get used to it.

So this week we have found new people. Some references from the elders, some from the area book...etc. I have realized this week...and I can testify with my whole heart that...

GOD REALLY IS A GOD OF MIRACLES.

That is what I have learned here. Thank you all for your support. Thank you for your love. For your prayers. I tell myself everyday I don´t know how I do this. How I walk so much, how I teach, how I understand the people, how I deal with everything. But I know it is because of your prayers, and because of my loving heavenly father who loves his children. I love you all!

2 baptisms and more scheduled!

HELLO FRIENDS AND FAMILY!
So I had a great week!!! I have lots of good things to tell you. I have decided to leave out all the drama...who needs it right? ;)

So our investigator Nelson is drinking less coffee!!! wahoo!!

So I hit 15 months this week! wow...we were visiting some members and they asked me how much time I had left. My companion responded...12 weeks. I quickly blurted no....then I gasped...no!....I have 12 weeks left in the misión!!! crazy!!! Time flies so fast.

So Ar___ passed her interview!!! After 6 years of knowing the church and talking to missionaries she is finally getting baptized!!! So saturday we ended up talking to An__ becasue he was a bit nervous. We shared Doctrina y convenios 6:33. I think it helped him. So for the baptism..E___ and Ar__ got married...after being together for 14 years! Her kids didn´t want to come...so it was just her and her husband. I walked with her to the Font and she said...I think I am going to cry. I gave her a hug and she entered the water. After the baptism her husband told us that is how you do it! I want to be baptized saturday. We smiled so big and explained that we had to teach him first and he had to go to church. We couldn´t believe it! haha. We also baptized An__. He lives in the área of the elders, but we taught him more than the elders, so for me it counts as my baptism. haha. We were so happy to see him get baptized!!! thanks to us that found him..haha.

Sunday Ar__, her husband AND her two kids came to church! E__ her husband was in a white shirt. After the two hours they were walking like they were going to leave. I asked if they were going to stay the third hour. Aracelly wasn´t sure and her husband asks what it was like. I explained it, and he goes...let´s go and starts walking. haha. He loved the WHOLE thing!!! It was great! That night we visited them and instead of him running away like he did before, he quickly fixed the chairs, let us in and called his wife. He smiles more, and I just can´t believe it. It is not the same guy we knew before. We taught lesson 1 and everything was fine. Then a member showed up..so sweet and talked about the book of mormon and FHE. Then we put a fecha. Will you prepare to be baptized the 28th of this month? He quickly and happily said yes yes yes...as if obviously...are you stupid? haha. He goes, yes. Satruday. My companion goes yes, saturday...the 28th. haha. He also asked if his youngest who is 9 can be baptized. He wants his whole family. So we put fechas with his 2 kids also. Wow...I can´t believe it. He never went to church before because he thought we prayed to Joseph Smith. Now being in the church he knows the truth and loves it all! We are so happy! The Lord is blessing us so much! We had 5 people at church...5 people that are progressing! We are completing all the goals...this was my first time having 5 people at church...I know that these last 3 months will be the best!

We have two other Young kids that will be baptized this month. So we are excited! My companion and my DL told me that I found my family. Maybe they won´t get baptized the same time...but I believe Ar__ and E__ are my family I have been searching for.

I love this work. I love my heavenly Father will all my heart. I know he loves us. That he blesses us. I am grateful to know that I am a child of God.

I hope you all have the courage to open your mouths and share the gospel. :)

Love

time is getting short

HOLA!!!! So today yes I have a longer letter prepared. haha. So we met with M___ our convert and brought him a strength of youth pamphlet. We talked about the sabbath day because he wasn´t at church. He said he was helping his mom and when he finished it was 9:30 and so by the time he would have gotten at church it would have been 10... I was like are you kidding me?! that is why you didn't go...although I will explain later on why he really didn't go.

We visited S___ and read from Preach my góspel and gave him the purpose to study. We also called the elders and set up a day for S____ to leave with the elders.

We had a family home evening with Aracely and some members where we watched finding faith in christ. It is a good movie.

We also have like FHE at church on wednesdays...S____ brought his two non member friends...j__ c___ and N___!!! We taught them quickly before the meeting started. Also the same night M___ told me he had something to tell us about the church but that he would wait until we visited him on friday... so of course that made me nervous the whole time.

In our zone meeting the zone leaders and us sang Tengo Gozo en mi Alma Hoy. It is a song that we are going to sing for mothers day here. We also practiced putting a baptism date with someone who comes to church. So if we are at church and see someone we don´t know....we have to talk to them...if they live in our área we ask if we can talk to them for 5 minutes before the class. We tell them our purpose and put a baptism date there and then. A new thing they want us to do.

So I also got mail this week! Thank you bryan and Laurie for the package!!! nutella!!! I got beccas graduation invitation, and the card from grandpa and grandma chase with plan of salvation cards. I also got what is called trunky papers....its my papers to fill out my flight to go home...NOOOO it is all so real! haha.I told my zone leader I didn´t want it, but I had to take it. haha

So friday M___ wasn´t home so I was bummed. I had a dream...a bad dream...That I had changes, (transfers) but that I went somewhere where my mom (trainer) was there. I was crying hard because I didn´t want to be there. I didn´t even pack everything because I didn´t believe I really had changes. (transfers) I left my shoes, and everything that was on my desk. I was crying because I didn´t get to talk to M___ and so I never knew what he was going through...what his problem was. I  woke up from my dream feeling awful... awful... if that is how i am going to feel when i go home...i do not want to go home.....it was the worst feeling ever. the WORST.

So we have a family who now gives us dinner each night..I am getting fatter now. We eat at 8:30pm so we go to bed after...so freak...I am getting so fat now...this is not what i wanted. But the food is so good. haha.

So we had a good experience with the family that we eat lunch with. I had chosen a scripture during my studies to share with them. When we got there I asked how they were doing. The mom said mas o menos  (so so) because her grandpa passed away recently and it was around mothers day. I shared doctrine and covenants 58:2-4 that says ,.....
2 For verily I say unto you, blessed is he that keepeth my commandments, whether in life or in death; and he that is faithful in tribulation, the reward of the same is greater in the kingdom of heaven.
3 Ye cannot behold with your natural eyes, for the present time, the design of your God concerning those things which shall come hereafter, and the glory which shall follow after much tribulation.
4 For after much tribulation come the blessings. Wherefore the day cometh that ye shall be crowned with much glory; the hour is not yet, but is nigh at hand.

So I explained that we all have trials and hardships but when we are faithful we receive blessings. That many times with our natural eyes we cannot see the future and what lies ahead. The blessings that will come. But that after the trials come the blessings, especially in the life after this life. The daughter started to cry and thanked us because when her great grandma died she felt as though she forgot everything she had ever learned and started to ask why...but that this was an answer to her question. I then thanked her because I feel at times I study and study but am not guided by the spirit. But that day was evidence that I do listen to the spirit.

So we taught a guy the other day who runs marathons. He ran one in long beach california. He is going to run another one there in october. haha. Pretty cool.

So S____ worked with the elders on saturday and is going to go again on wednesday. We also had a mothers day activity on saturday. a talent show. we sang. people danced. It was good. the Young adults danced to grease, and ricki sang in english. So S____ told us M___ doesnt want to go to church on sunday...i am a bit worried.
So sunday S___ brought his two friends...who also have a baptism date...A___ came, a___, and m___. It was a good turnout. the elders brought a half drunk to church. When i shook his hand he kissed my hand. Then later he blew me a kiss in sacrament. Elder mann just laughed. Then later he saw I had chocolate and so when I gave him one I went to walk away and he kissed my shoulder. haha. So S___ shared his testimony at church for the first time in his life. you could tell he was so nervous but he did a great job.

So we had looked through our área book and found a family that we decided to visit. We found the wife and we talked to her. She explained when the sisters came the first time her husband and her almost were about to separate...then things were fine and then now they are thinking about it again...and we show up. she said she doesn´t think it is a coincidence. we explained that no. haha. I asked if the sisters had invited her to be baptized. she said that yes, but that when one of them left to go home, they stopped coming so she never was baptized. so i easily jumped on board and invited her to baptized and she accepted. she even remembered we had fhe on wednesday and said she is going to go. the Lord is helping us a lot these days.

So we finally found M___. He told us he felt bad because he isn´t Reading the scriptures and would rather play soccer then go to church and read. And he feels bad for that and feels bad every time we visit and he tells us he didn´t read. He said also for that reason he hasn´t been to church. He told us he had a dream that he was standing there, and there was hermana Eusebio and me.... he said hermanana Eusebio started to walk towards him and i was farther away but motioned to him to come here. he said he hid from us because he felt like we had something bad to tell him...like as if one of us was going to have changes....i cried. literally I cried. we explained that I had a dream the same night and that it was that I had changes....

Later on that day we saw the church open and so we went in to use the bathroom. We saw S___ and told him that we needed him to help M___ so that he is more involved in church activities. We also told r___ the same thing. Then r___ starts to talk to me in english...he says look...there are members talking about you and your companion. That you are always looking for S___ and m___ and are always at the church when they are there. I explained to r___  it is becasue we are teaching 2 of their friends and they tell us when they are going to be at church to teach them. He said he knows, but that the members are planning on talking to our bishop and misión president.  So my poor companion is freaked out...she has 1 month in the misisón and has been robbed and has had gossip spread. haha. So we called j__ c__, s__'s brother who helps us a lot. we explained what happened and he said not to worry that he will help us and talk to the members. So that same night we went to eat with the family who gives us dinner...and bishop and his wife were there. We freaked and just said we passed by to say hi and left. Later we called them and apologized. The hermana knew we couldn´t leave our house so at 9:20 at night her and her husband brought us dinner. tan lindo ellos. (they are so lovely, or in other words, lovely people)

I feel the lord is blessing us with success now. We pretty much have baptisms scheduled for every week this month. My only fear is that I will leave before I baptize them all. I love this work, I love the people. I don´t know what I will do when time gets closer cuz I start to cry now just thinking of how Little time I have left. I might not be the best missionary. I might not teach that great, but the work is amazing. I love my savior. I love my heavenly Father. And I am grateful for each and every one of the blessings my God has given me.

Love,
Hermana Chase
